Sustainable Excursion Policy
At Local Moshi Adventures, sustainability is an important part of how we design and operate our excursions and activities. As the excursion provider, we are directly responsible for ensuring that our activities are operated in a way that respects local communities, our employees, the environment, wildlife, and our guests.
We aim to provide experiences that are safe, authentic, responsible, and appropriate for the expectations and budget of our clients. We continuously look for opportunities to improve the sustainability of our excursions and to reduce their environmental and social impacts.
Sustainable Excursion Principles
1. The Right Product for the Right Price
Our excursions are designed to provide a safe, hygienic, comfortable, and enjoyable experience appropriate to the expectations of our clients.
We believe that sustainable tourism should be accessible at different price levels. We therefore aim to provide good value while ensuring that our pricing allows us to operate responsibly and provide fair conditions for our employees and partners.
2. Fair Business
Local Moshi Adventures operates according to principles of fair and transparent business. We respect applicable laws and regulations and are committed to:
-
Respecting human rights and labor rights
-
Providing fair and transparent business practices
-
Promoting economic and social equity
-
Preventing corruption and bribery
-
Protecting the environment and biodiversity
-
Treating employees, clients, communities, and business partners fairly
3. Minimizing Our Impact on the Environment and Society
We aim to minimize the negative environmental and social impacts of our excursions wherever practical.
Our guides and staff are encouraged to communicate responsible tourism practices to guests and to ensure that our activities are conducted respectfully toward local communities, cultural sites, wildlife, and natural areas.
General Sustainability Considerations
Human Care
Our employees and guides are an essential part of the experiences we provide. We therefore aim to maintain good working conditions, including fair compensation, reasonable working hours, appropriate rest and meal breaks, and a safe working environment.
We respect the rights and dignity of our employees and seek to provide opportunities for professional development and training.
No Plastic Policy
We do no use single-use plastics during our excursions.
Where practical, guests are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles, and we provide opportunities to refill bottles rather than relying on single-use plastic water bottles.
Our guides also encourage guests to avoid unnecessary plastic use and to take responsibility for their waste during excursions.
Waste Management
We aim to reduce and properly dispose of waste generated during our excursions.
Where facilities are available, we separate waste such as organic materials and plastics for appropriate treatment, composting, or recycling.
Our guides encourage guests not to leave any waste behind and to follow the principle of leaving natural and cultural sites as they were found.
Energy Efficiency
We seek to use energy responsibly in our offices, vehicles, accommodation facilities, and other operations.
Where practical, we use energy-efficient lighting and equipment and encourage staff and guests to switch off lights and electrical equipment when they are not required.
Child Protection
Local Moshi Adventures is committed to protecting children and respecting their rights.
We do not employ children in violation of applicable labor laws and do not support activities that exploit children or place them at risk.
We also take care that our excursions do not contribute to child exploitation, including inappropriate interactions between tourists and children.
Local Supplies
Whenever practical, we purchase goods and services locally.
We aim to use locally produced food and other products and to work with local businesses wherever this can be done while maintaining appropriate quality, safety, and value.
Supporting local businesses helps ensure that tourism income remains within the local economy.
Biodiversity Care
We recognize the importance of protecting Tanzania's natural environment and biodiversity.
During our excursions, we aim to minimize disturbance to wildlife, plants, and natural habitats. Guests are informed about responsible behavior around wildlife and in protected areas.
We do not intentionally support activities that exploit threatened or protected species.
Authenticity and Cultural Heritage
We aim to provide authentic experiences that respect and showcase local culture, traditions, history, architecture, and heritage.
Where appropriate, our excursions incorporate local knowledge, local guides, cultural experiences, and locally owned businesses.
We respect the intellectual property and cultural rights of local communities and avoid presenting cultural traditions in a disrespectful or inappropriate manner.
Community Value
We aim to ensure that tourism contributes positively to the communities in which we operate.
Whenever possible, we support local employment, local businesses, community initiatives, and locally owned services.
We seek to ensure that the communities and people who contribute to our excursions benefit from tourism.
Stimulating Enhanced Sustainable Practices
Local Moshi Adventures follows a long-term approach to improving the sustainability of our excursions.
We regularly review our practices and look for opportunities to improve our environmental and social performance.
Where appropriate, we participate in collaborative initiatives with other tourism businesses, local organizations, and stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism in Tanzania.
Our managers and guides communicate sustainability practices to guests and staff and identify opportunities for improvement during the operation of our excursions.
We may also use recognized sustainability standards, guidance, training materials, and self-evaluation tools to strengthen our practices.
Corrective Actions
If we identify an unsustainable practice within our own operations, we take corrective action to address it.
Where an issue involves a business partner or service provider working on our behalf, we first communicate the concern and request appropriate corrective action. If the issue is not resolved, we may discontinue the relationship.
Our objective is to continuously improve our sustainability performance and ensure that our business relationships are consistent with our sustainability principles.
Communication of Sustainability Practices
We communicate our sustainability principles through several channels.
Email and Telephone
We communicate sustainability expectations and practices with our staff, guides, clients, and business partners through email, telephone, and other appropriate communication channels.
In-Person Communication
Our managers and guides communicate responsible tourism practices directly to guests and, where relevant, to local businesses and community members involved in our excursions.
Guest Communication
Before and during excursions, we encourage guests to:
-
Minimize plastic and other waste
-
Respect wildlife and natural environments
-
Respect local communities, cultures, and traditions
-
Conserve water and energy where applicable
-
Follow the instructions of guides and protected-area authorities
-

-
No child labor or exploitation of children
